NAIDOC Week Excursion

Morgan's Lookout Excursion

The Stage 2 students went for a walk as a group with the owner Ash. They looked around the paddocks and he asked them to sit down quietly and try to listen to the birds. Aunty Edna and Uncle Sam showed them what can be found in the bush like, you can make paint out of two rocks, there is a little treat on eucalyptus leaves that is like sugar, you can make fire out of softwood and a carved stick, there are lots of different ways to make medicine, and out of red grass you can make string to craft a basket and other things. They did a scavenger hunt, and they had to find bugs, butterflies, ants, brown leaves, green leaves, water and lots of other things. Then they had to use their five senses: see, feel, touch, smell, hear. Then they went for a walk around to the other side of the rock to create artwork using sticks, leaves and grass to make patterns. It was very interesting and great work with our friends from the other schools.

The Stage 3 students created a leaf painting. They had to find leaves and then glue them on a piece of black, red or yellow cardboard, then when it was dry they added dot paintings to all of the leaves. They went on a long walk to the silos and learnt that the owners are planting more native plants to get it back to its natural environment. We had so much fun learning about the Aboriginal culture and creating artwork.
